Sports tourism continues to give Hawaii an economic boost

Crews battle second structure fire in Hilo

The fire tore through a block at Haili and Kinoole Streets and forced people from their homes. This fire broke out overnight inside the block between Haili and Kinoole Streets. It burned through several connected buildings before the flames finally eased. Crews sprayed down a nearby 5G tower and stayed staged at the gas station to keep the fire from spreading. Dozens of residents had to evacuate, some without car keys or pets and many carpooled out. Power is still out across the immediate area and a six hour road closure around the area. Miss Universe Philippines Hawaii winner to celebrate birthday with fundraising event

Electric motorcycle rider critically injured after vehicle collides with him

The crash happened at around 7:15 p.m. on Malakeke Street. According to Honolulu Police, a 44-year-old motorist and his juvenile passenger were westbound on Malakeke Street when he traveled into the eastbound lanes to overtake another vehicle and struck the motorcyclist, who was ejected onto the roadway. The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital in critical condition. HPD said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Police said the motorist and his passenger remained at the scene and were not injured. Investigators said speed appears to be a contributing factor to the collision. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved....
